Clare and Sandy's Edinburgh Wedding

While Clare prepared for her wedding with her parents and her best friends Sandy roamed the streets of Edinburgh looking for someone, anyone, who knew how to tie a cravat. Clutching their lengths of golden satin they made their way to a kilt hire shop trusting that there would be someone there who could help them. Unfortunately for Sandy and his boys they only sold clip ons. Dispirited and ever so slightly anxious they trudged home, ties still flapping. However one bright spark had been trawling YouTube while they were gone and there he had found their saviour. Life without the internet really doesn't bare thinking about does it?

Cravats tied Sandy and his ushers made their way to St Catherine's Argyll Church where their friends practised for their respective roles in what would be a touchingly personal ceremony performed by Clare's divinity lecturer and filled with readings and songs by friends.

After the ceremony everyone made their way to Howies restaurant on Waterloo Pace, an Edinburgh institution famed for its glorious interior and spectacular food, where they found their seats at tables named after Clare and Sandy's favourite books with the aid of personalised bookplates (the best wedding decoration I have ever seen). After a small detour back to Clare's parents for a celebratory cup of tea with one of their best men and wedding pianist Clare and Sandy joined their friends and family at Howies to eat, drink, talk and dance into the beautiful Edinburgh night.

I love the Swallows and Amazon's quote. What were they used for?

oooh I love this wedding, its so lovely! I look all the book pictures, and we stayed right behind that Howies when we were in Edinburgh, on Calton Hill, so its nice to see that one again, I've very jealous of them having Howies food for their wedding!

This wedding is gorgeous. Love the child in the aisle and the bridesmaids when they see the lovely bride. Sweet couple, and Edinburgh fabulous as ever. Really lovely pics.

Roger age 7 indeed. Now I want to know the quote. If I had to guess, I'd say he was tacking up the field pretending to be a schooner.

Reminds me of honeymooning... sigh...

Isn't the quote the better drowned than duffers quote?

Meg, did you go to the Lake District on your honeymoon too?

The shots of them watching YouTube to tie their ties might be my favourites. I've done the same thing myself, trying to tie a tie for my friend. The knot turned out very loose, and the tie much too short, but we got the technique down! That's also how my brother and sister learned to tie my brother's bowtie for my wedding, haha.

I've been to 2 weddings at Howie's and they were both great days, I think it's a fab venue and looks like they've redecorated? Loving the book idea as well.
